Out of Office: Chicago

Out of Office is a documentary series that takes us beyond the office and into the real stories behind cultural exchange. In this edition, we travel to Chicago to meet international teachers who have come to the United States not only to grow as educators, but to share their cultures, learn from new communities, and create meaningful connections through the J-1 Teacher Program. Many make the journey with their families, giving the experience an impact that reaches well beyond the school day.

Through conversations with teachers and school leaders, we explore what it means to teach in a new country, the perspectives international educators bring to their schools, and how cultural exchange can shape both professional and personal lives. These stories are about education, family, community, growth, and the lasting connections that come from experiencing another culture firsthand.
